The first Congress of Ophthalmology in the Republic of Srpska
The first Congress of Ophthalmology was held in Bijeljina from 29th to 31st of May. The Congress gathered more than 300 the most eminent experts from the country and region, but also from Slovakia, Czech Republic and Sweden.
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Srpska, Dragan Bogdanic welcomed the participants of this Congress and said that this branch of medicine in RS is still in progress, but that he is satisfied with the results until now.
Danijela Djukin, who is the member of the Association of Ophthalmologists of RS, said that this scientific meeting has a great significance, because it gives the opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of ophthalmology.
Topics of the Congress were : orbit, eyelids, lacrimal device, cornea, conjuctiva, cataract, retina, glaucoma, refractive surgery, neuro-ophthalmology, eye trauma, and pediatric ophthalmology.
Danijela Djukin said that the Republic of Srpska has 80 ophthalmologists, together with specializants in the field of ophthalomology. Fourty of them work at the Clinic for eye diseases in Banja Luka, others work in regional hospitals.
She pointed out that ophthalmologists from the Republic of Srpska improve their knowledge at the Clinics in Serbia and other European Clinics.
The Head of the Service for Ophthalmology in Foca Dr Nada Avram, presented her paper ”Angiocentric orbit lymphoma- case report”.

The paper presents the case of histologically confirmed extranodal angiocentric T-lymphoma of the orbit in men of age 76.
