VIII Symposium of Surgeons of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska with International participation was held
VIII Symposium of Surgeons of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska with International participation was held from 18th to 20th of June, at the Faculty of Medicine in Foca. The Symposium gathered about 200 surgeons from more than 30 medical institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro.
The honorable guest of the Symposium is the President of the Association for laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery in Hungary, Janos Bezila, who held lecture about laparoscopic surgery of the colon.
Bezila pointed out that the advantage of the laparosopic surgery is essential to the patient because he quckly recovers and returns to his normal life.
”Laparoscopy requires a lot of practice and a lot of financial investments, because it is necessary to obtain instruments,” Bezila said.
He added that in the first years of using this type of surgery, because it requires large investments, it was not profitable. Thanks to great effort of health workers, Health Insurance Fund took over the funding.
Head of the Center for Surgery of the University hospital Foca Radmil Maric, said that this year’s symposium treats the issue that is most common (malignancy of the colon, stomach, breast).
”I think that the Republic of Srpska deserves much more investments and focus on this issue, because the oncological surgery will require more involvement, especially from the Ministry of Health, but also from the entire community,” Maric said.
Maric also pointed out that meetings like this one contribute to the exchange of good practices and adoption of modern surgical methods.
The Symposium is organized by the Association of Surgeons of the Republic of Srpska, Surgical Section of the Serbian Medical Society of Serbia and the University hospital in Foca as a teaching base of the Faculty of Medicine.
